TorchLight Enabler app NO root required

Thanks to Xperiacle, great XDA Developer, this is a very simple but very useful app that will enable the Torch App (Flashlight) when the Screen is off and/or locked by simply pressing and holding the Volume Up button.

Our phones has the Torch in the Quick Toggles, but you need to turn it on, unlock and then go to to the QuickToggle to turn it on and off, with this is as simply as press and Hold the Volume Up, once you finish press the Volume down once. Best of all, no root required.

That's not how it works on my phone. I have my phone set to lock every time the screen turns off or whenever I hit the lock/power button ... and I have fingerprint security on it that kicks in immediately as soon as lock/power button is clicked, or when the screen goes blank.

So, for me to turn on my FLASHLIGHT (not a torch,LOL ... torches are on fire, and LED's are LIGHTS) all I do is click the home or power button, then swipe down to get the quick toggles, then tap the flashlight icon. Flashlight stays on regardless of the screen being on/off, and stays on until I hit the quick-toggle to turn it off.

Now, if the volume button is a "one touch" thing that turns the flashlight on/off like a toggle, that's pretty cool ... but the way it is now isn't so inconvenient for me that I need to install another app to control this feature. Plus, accidental clicks of the volume button when the phone is locked would be annoying, especially during the day when you may not know you even turned the flashlight on ...

Torch (Flashlight) is the name of the app and for some reason it appears like that in most Android skins including our TouchWiz.

About the "inconvenience", your points are all valid, and I stand corrected, but I wasn't so bad after all, I just forgot that this is one of the toggles that can be turn on and off without unlocking the device, but for the rest I was spot on

It will be very strange that you can activate this appapp accidentally as it requires a press and hold for a little more than 1 second, but even if you manage to do it the app has this Torch light time out, you set it as 15 seconds and it will turn off at that time. And yes, it's just a one click for on and off.

Anyway, as in every other app or feature, for some people they are great and useful and for others they don't. I found it useful so I passed the info here for those of you that also could think the same about it.

Ahh, the old "torch" / "flashlight" argument.

In the UK (and also a large chunk of europe), its "torch".
In the Americas (USA, Canada, etc) its "flashlight".

Both are right, and both are wrong. The "torch" isn't on fire, and the "flashlight" doesn't flash.

The whole torch/flashlight thing is just cultural, so please don't tell people that calling it a torch is wrong. Unless of course, you're willing to sit there turning it on off on off on off so it really is a flashlight.

My old favorite flashlight app had a Morse code / aldis lamp feature, just type in your message and signal away to your old timey friends. So it was truly a flashlight.

I installed this on a snapdragon 810 phone this it was so hot it was a torch as well.

As honestly as I can say this, I was/am not trying to start an argument. I was really just having some fun w/ the whole torch vs. flashlight thing. Being from the USA, and having it be a flashlight here, it will forever sound funny to me when I hear someone call a battery or electrically powered light a "torch". Obviously, you're already aware that here in the USA, a torch would refer to something that is burning ... a fire on a stick if you will ... whereas, a flashlight is just that ... a light that can remain on constantly, or be flashed for signaling.

So, again, i was not really trying to make this thread a debate about the name of the app ... but I did want to point out that my phone does call it a flashlight, not a torch.

As for the app from XDA, I can see how it would be useful to some ... and that's great. Options are always great. For me, however, I don't see a need for it ... it's all too easy to use what is already built into the phone to control the flashlight/torch on my phone.
