Benchmarks and real-world performance measurements haven't been released for either SoC so I am going to hold judgement until then. The main reason for switching from the Snapdragon SoC is likely due to the higher resolution display of the M9 Plus/Max/whatever in that the MT6795 can likely, properly drive such a display without chewing through the battery. But I'm not sure which one will truly perform better. Nobody knows at this point as benchmarks aren't everything. The Snapdragon could be faster at 1080p but slow to a crawl at 2K or get really hot whereas the MT6795 could perform equally well at both resolutions.

We will just have to wait and see.

The Mediatek processor is rumored to be only for the Asian market. The North American devices should get the the Snapdragon 810 in both the M9 and M9 Plus.

Which is another issue. So we will just have to wait and see. From what I understand, there are copyright issues with LTE radios and SoC configurations in the U.S. That is one reason why Samsung used Snapdragon chips in the U.S. and used their own chips internationally. We will just have to wait and see. I'm sure both are formidable SoCs.

I'm not sure about copyright laws but from my understanding,
the reason Samsung used different chips internationally is the lack of LTE Modem support on Exynos chips in the past couple years. Other places in the world which do not have as developed LTE networks are fully outfitted with HSPA and that is the maximum that Exynos variants supported.

the mediatek chip will get development to unlike the exynos on the s6.

While the Exynos chip may not get full fledged custom roms, developers will sill be able to create custom kernels and other goodies for it. The Mediatek is not much better off than the Exynos in terms of development either.

Either way, I would much rather have a great performing and battery efficient chip than more development. If I feel I need to satisfy my inner need to tinker, I'll pick up a Nexus 5 or Moto G.
