Totally frustrated with Sprint,Evo, abd 4g

The whole reason. I got this phone was the 4g saturation in my city, Seattle. I'm on my 4th phone and have been able to connect to 4g exactly two times for a total of less than 2 minutes. And,despite supposed in building service in my area, I could only connect outside. I need 4g in my apt, not standing outside in the sun. I called Sprint 5 times, went through all the resets and updating profiles and still nothing. Plus,every time I called them I had to find an f'in payphone because who has a landing anymore? I called Sprint this morning to see if they would adjust my bill only to be informed that the $10 a month surcharge wasnt for 4g, but "other data applications." I reminded her that this is their only 4g phone and the only one with a surcharge,but she refused to give me a credit. Lame phone,lame customer service.

It has been well known that the 10 Dollar surcharge is mandatory for quite some time. They won't remove it for as long as you have the phone.
 
I just wanted a credit since what I'm being charged for isn't working. I mean I'm in an area with complete saturation and none of my phones would connect to 4g. It's not like I bought it and live in a no 4g area. Look at their ad campaign,its all built around 4g.

I don't live in a 4G area and I still pay the 10 dollar surcharge. They won't give you credit for it. 4G is spotty in most areas, and has poor building penetration.
 
Nope. The charge is for 'premium data', not 4G. There's no false advertising.

What is "premium data"? The only data difference between this phone and other Android phones is access to faster 4g data rates. All their advertising revolves around 4g. I live in a city with 4g but can never access it. To say "well you have a phone that could potentially access 4g but probably won't except every once in a while when you are standing outside "seems false to me.

Doesn't matter what you try to deduce. It says premium data, not 4G, and thus is not false advertising, period. It's not about the idea, it's about what it says.

Premium data is no data cap. All other Sprint smart phones get the 5 GB a month data cap, the Evo and Epic won't have that, it just happens to be that they are also 4G phones.

I understand that what you're saying is factually true, but their advertising is certainly misleading.
 
It doesn't bother me. I don't live in a 4G market to begin with, I bought it for other reasons. When 4G arrives it will be icing on the cake. The 3G alone is actually faster than my 3G USB card I used to have, surprisingly.

To not be able to access the most highly touted feature of the phone wouldn't bother you? Lol.
 
For most people who bought the EVO, me included, bought it knowing that it's essentially a really good 3G phone. I don't know when 4G will be available where I live and even if it was, would it really change the way I use the phone. Yes, most people don't like the extra 10 dollar charge and Sprint didn't handle it very well but we're still paying it because it gives us access to a great device at still reasonable monthly plan price. As with most things, vote with your wallet. After going through 4 phones, I doubt you'll ever be satisfied.
 
This argument has been going on since the phone was released. I, myself, don't have 4G, but I have to pay for the $10 premium. If you want the EVO, you have to pay to Premium. And Sprint's explanation was that it was for unlimited data, not 4G.

Correct.

I understand where the OP is coming from, though. If I /was/ in a 4G area and wasn't getting 4G I would definitely be hounding Sprint until the issue was resolved.

However, griping about premium data charges isn't going to get you anywhere because they are NOT for 4G coverage.
 
Really guys? The 4G isn't even all that good. I have amazing 4G coverage and can easily get 7mbps down, but I never use it. Trust me, you're not missing out on much. Just use your home wifi if you want good D/L speeds.

The 10$ a month is for having the best phone on Sprint and not having to pay ridiculous prices for data like Verizon and At&T. If you're that mad go compare how much you'd be paying if you had a Droid X or an iPhone 4.

This may be true, but a feature is a feature.
 
Agreed. I've only been through four phones because none of them would ever connect to 4g and Sprint kept telling me my phones must be defective since I live in a 4g area. I don't think its wrong to expect some sort of adjustment when I can't use the most heavily advertised feature of the phone.

Well, the adjustment would be to get a different phone.

Otherwise, you have to work with Sprint to get the issue resolved.
