Touch screen not responding?!

Hello,
I've got a HUGE problem with my phone. The touch screen just decided to stop working. I didn't drop it, it didn't get wet... stuff like that, but... yeah, it just stopped working!
I took out the battery and let my phone sit for about three minutes -- no luck. Before that, my phone had been charging for almost an hour-- and it was working just fine before that!
What could this mean? Can I fix it? Or do I need to get a new phone? I can't unlock it, so I probably can't reset it or anything...
Help!

OTG cable and a USB mouse and you can simulate a finger on the touch screen. You (or, more properly, a repair shop*), can fix it, but the question is why it went bad. You can get water damage without being near water. Get the phone cold enough, then bring it into a warm humid environment and the condensation does just as much damage as putting the phone into a glass of water. Unless you find out what happened to it, you'll replace the digitizer and it'll happen again.

*Replacing the digitizer requires heat, evenly applied to the entire glass of the screen, hot enough to melt the glue holding it to the phone, but not hot enough to damage the LCD screen under it. And the difference isn't much. Too little heat and you'll spider the glass and a sharp point will puncture the screen and you'll have to buy a new one. Too much heat and you ruin the screen - and have to buy a new one. It's usually cheaper to pay someone to replace the digitizer. At the same time they can find out why it went bad and, if it's something that can be fixed or prevented, they can take care of that at the same time.
