I recently got a motorcycle after not having had one for about 3 years. When I last had one, I simply had a clamshell flip phone with all physical buttons. I never worried much because I figured even if i cracked the screen, as long as the phone itself was functional, I could make an emergency call.
Now I have a Droid and everything is obviously touchscreen, and behind a standard slide to unlock. I've seen plenty of people with shattered iPhone screens that still function enough to use the phone. The Droid seems to be pretty solid construction as well.
Anyway, the question is...how reliable/easy to use would a touch screen interface be to use if something bad actually did happen and the only way to get help was to call for an ambulance myself? Would the screen likely be usable? Does the longer shape of the large screen phones increase the likelihood that they get snapped? Has anyone actually experienced this situation or known someone who has?
