Touchless Controls with Apps that aren't stock

I don't have the device in hand, but it is coming soon, so I apologize if this is an obvious question.

Does touchless control work with non-stock apps? For example, will it read a txt to me if I want to use Hangouts for txts?

It will work with Hangouts for texts for sure, that is what I use.

Just to clarify, Touchless Controls doesn't read new texts to you. That job is relegated to Motorola Assist.

But, yes, I can confirm that Assist will read you new texts if you're using a third party message app.

Well by default the standard AOSP messaging app is what is used for SMS. In the settings menu you can change the default SMS app to hangouts or any other SMS app that is installed on the phone. Assist should read out your messages as long as you set whatever app you're using for SMS as the default.
