My wife has an iPhone; I have a rooted TB. Is there a tracking app that would work on both platforms?

Thanks!

I'd like to know the answer as well.
Same situation, except that I'm stock (not rooted).

What kind of tracking are we talking about? lol.
Only thing I can think about is Google Latitude. It's available in the iTunes store. On the TB, it's enabled through Google Maps.
I hope that helps.

I use google latittude as well. Works nice. Not realtime updating, not sure how to control the frequency of updates. We have it turned on for all our phones.

Are you asking for a APP that will locate her phone if lost?. There is a program called "Lookout".

I don't know if Verizon has it still, but a few years back I had the "parent" feature put onto my son's phone to locate him. It would alert me when he went out of the predefined allowed area. The problem is, I had to have access to his phone to install the app, and then he could shut it off with the "location" setting.

If you just want to know where she is, I would recommend Google's latitude, then again, she has to turn that on/off herself. If you are spying on her (NOT SAYING YOU ARE), then she might not like that either....believe me, I speak from experience....and I have been divorced for 9 years.....LOLOLOLOL

Edit: Found this by Googling http://www.androidtrackingapp.com/

as others have stated google lattitude, but you will both be aware of being tracked ;-)

Another vote for Google Latitude. Here are the limitations, though.

- The person being tracked has to explicitly add you to allow you to see them. They are also informed that you can see them, and they can shut down that consent at any time, set you to only see their location at the city level, or even enter a location they want you to see them at.

- The application only does near-real-time tracking when you are running Google Maps (in other words, the map is up on the screen). If the app goes into the background, it only gives very approximate location (nearest cell tower) and only once every 15 minutes minimum.

Google Latitude is more of a "I want to show my friends where I am when I want to tell them" sort of application than a "I want to be tracked 24/7" application. That's why it's legal to use.

But if you and your wife are (as in my case) just interested in a "are you on your way home from work?" or "when you're out kayaking I want to know your location from time to time" sort of thing, Latitude is perfect. It's not at all invasive, we both know we're running it, we both have it set so only the other can see location with any precision.

I only wish it had a setting that could "force-ping" my exact location at an interval I specify even when the screen on my phone is off. That way, I could set it to ping my location every half-hour, throw the phone in a drysack, and go out kayaking knowing my wife is getting occasional location updates.

I think there are other applications that do that sort of thing, I'm just not worried about it enough to do the research. Latitude meets most of my needs, it's free, and it's not invasive or creepy.

Google Latitude should get you what you want.
Most any other tracking app will suck the battery dry in minutes.

Legal, what do you mean legal?

I can install an of a number of apps on my phone that track me and report my location 24/7, if I want. The law can't tell me that I can't keep a record of my own phones location. That is 100% different if you track someone else secretly of course. Oh wait, the phone company already does that. They have past records of your location. Too late.

But, on the OP question. Google Lattitude is a good solution as it is the least battery hogging, and just quietly does the job. You can't change the update rate, and of course the phone owner has to allow others to view their location.

I can go into the Google Latitude records and see where I was at any point in the past. Friends can only see where I am now. The problem with Latitude, is that it uses the easiest location lookup to save battery and time. So it may be a GPS location accurate within a few feet. Or it may be cell tower based, accurate within 5000 feet or so. Anything else would kill the battery
