So, the wife and I got a pair of Optimus S's back in december... not realizing it was an armv6 processor. I thought that with the snapdragon vpu that it would be good to go. That means no flash support... ever. Now, no firefox. I am sure there are a ton of other apps/programs that require arm v7 as well.

I am furious that after only a few months the phone is pretty much obsolete, and can only imagine what its going to be 2 years from now when we are eligible for upgrade.

Not happy with the situation, and wish I had spent the extra $ for an evo, or just waited for wp7.

What options, if any, does sprint offer for early upgrades or trade in's? We are longtime customers (going on a decade) and always in good standing... but considering jumping ship based on the phone offering. Half the functionality I was looking for by going to android just is not possible on this phone based on the unadvertised archaic processor.

Sell the optimus's on ebay or craigslist or here or something. Then use that money and buy something else.

And for future reference maybe do a little more research before you buy a phone.

Looking at CL in my area, looks like they go for about the same amount as we paid for it, so upgrading to wp7 should be pretty cheap.

What steps need to be taken to wipe the phone of personal data and deactivating/reactivating service to wp7?

You need to go into settings and do a factory reset. This will wipe the device. Then you can activate a new phone by calling sprint or doing it online or going to a sprint store. Your old device will be deactivated and your new one will then be active.

Sure you want a WP7 phone? They just seem needlessly difficult. Have to use Zune software to update the software and load music. After a half hour of playing with one I really missed android and all the customizations possible.

You can sell the phones and use the money to pay for new ones, or you can open a new line and get the Evo with that and switch the phones. But you'll be stuck with an extra line. If there is someone to take the line it might not be a big deal.
