So over the weekend I was looking through my widget options on my phone just messing around and I saw one on my phone that I have never had on there before. It's called Traffic and it works by syncing with google maps. Was there an update that happened and this was installed? Does anyone else have this, because my wife has the same phone and it is not in her widget list. I know for a fact i didn't install or download this.

Just noticed it on my phone as well. I set it up with my home as the destination. It does link to Google maps, but it monitors traffic conditions and gives you a time estimate as a number that appears on the widget itself. I think as the day goes on and traffic worsens, the time est will change as will the color of the widget? Maybe so. I'll watch it today and see what happens.

Yup, I got it too, when I didn't have it before. I'm going to assume it was installed by Google Maps during the most recent update.

That is exactly what i did, set it up with home and have been watching it throughout the day. I did also notice that it goes to sleep if you don't use for a little bit, i guess to save battery. It could come in real handy but I'd still like to know where it came from? lol

This is actually a pretty cool widget. You can install it as many times as you want. I put one for work and one for home. Two widgets. It monitors traffic and your position and adjusts the time estimate accordingly. Additionally, as traffic gets heavier, the light changes from green to yellow and presumably to red. Haven't seen red yet, but did have two bottlenecks on the way to work. Looked at the widget and it was yellow. Pretty slick.

I played with it, but I didn't like the fact that when not in use, it takes too long for the gps to shut down.

Edit: It takes a while, but it does go to sleep. I'm going to monitor it's accuracy for a few days, for usefulness.

I noticed it using a lot of extra gps the first time i used it as well, hopefully it keeps itself in check. I figured it was installed with the latest gingerbread update for my phone, but it could be from google maps too, no mention in the change log, seems that'd get some attention.

mine just showed up today. Dont really know what its for, set it for home, and its yellow with an exclamation point in it.

Cool widget but how can I see which route the widget is basing its time estimation on?

My guess is it uses the quickest route as far as time goes. It'd be nice if it opened navigation to that destination when you click the widget but you'll have to manually navigate to it instead.
