Transferring contacts to Thrive

Vcard is like creating a virtual or electronic business card for each contact. The intended use is to allow someone to send their vcard to another person as an attachment so that they can just drop it into contacts in Outlook without having to type it in. It works ok to initially transfer contacts but it is a nightmare for synchronization.

Yo, I think I overlooked part of this post . . . that the Vcard format works okay for initial contacts transfer.

Man, if I could get all my almost 200 contacts transferred, manually adding a new one ever once in awhile would be as easy as signing my name!

Okay, should I delete any that I've already manually entered? I mean, prior to Vcard transfer?

Without deleting you might get duplication, but if you want to be safe delete the ones you entered.

Have you tried exporting your contact files from Outlook into a compatible format (.CSV I believe is the correct format), saving that file to a memory stick, and then transferring them to your Thrive's internal storage?

You should be able to go into your contacts on your Thrive, select import/export, import from storage, and load your contacts from the saved file.

Only two "export" files are listed in my Outlook 2010:
csv (DOS) and csv (Windows)

Which should I use, please?

You save your contacts from the contacts list to create a vcard file, remember it takes a bit if you have a lot of contacts, then you can import them from that file. This link is a simple explanation:

Unfortunately, my Outlook 2010 doesn't include an option for exporting to .vcf; the only export options are .csv, .tsv, .pst, Excel and Access. :(

Make sure you are in your contacts folder.

STEP 1: Select all contacts in your Outlook contact folder (CTRL-A).

STEP 2: From the Ribbon Bar at the top and Select ?Forward contact then as Business Card?

STEP 3: When the new message(it looks like an email) appears with all of your vCards attached with the .vcf extension, Rt click on each attachment and choose save as vcard and select a folder and save your vCards to that folder on your hard drive.

Step 4: Go to your import file option and select Import a VCARD file (.vcf)

It is a slow process but you avoid re-typing. There is software that automates the vcard export.

WhooooHoooo! Success at last---just had to have a break from teaching, I reckon, so I could fully focus on my Thrive.

Today I transferred my 168 contacts on my android Inspire 4G cell phone to my Thrive tab! YES!

In case someone else wishes to do a similar transfer, here are the very easy 4 steps:

1) Export Inspire CONTACTS to SD card mounted on Inspire
2) Transfer CONTACTS from Inspire SD card to puter folder (via usb betwixt cell and puter)
3) Transfer CONTACTS file from puter folder to Thrive file manager via USB flash drive
4) IMPORT CONTACTS from Thrive file manager into Thrive Contacts!

NOTE: Since I don't google-sync, I used the Thrive Contacts---not gmail on the Thrive---to import.

Sweet victory! And thank you to all of you who made suggestions in this thread; what each of you said and what I attempted that you said led me to the path of this very simple solution. :) :)

Another NOTE: I did get two of each contact with this process, but yo, it's much, much easier and faster to run through deleting than it is to manually keyboard in each individual contact. :)

And yes, SPrime, these are vcard files so I mayn't ever attempt to sync them, but entering one new contact at a time is not nearly as negative as entering 168, one at a time. :)
