Transferring upgrade to line with payment plan?

What would happen if I transfer an upgrade from one line to another line that has a payment plan? Would I still need to pay off the plan first in order to upgrade? I'm on the XL plan currently.

You would be fine. You don't have to pay off the dpp first

So I would get a new device under a new payment plan and have the old payment plan wiped?

The line where the upgrade originated from would get the new dpp. The line in which the upgrade was transferred to would keep it's current dpp as is.
