Transform Ultra Problem

Hello, I purchased 4 Transform Ultras for the family and my one of son's phone already has a problem. The battery is fully charged, activated and was fully functional up until this afternoon. When attempting to turn the phone on the screen has turned gray, white or black with each try to turn the phone on. It also makes random noises while attempting to turn it on momentarily.An attempt to call his phone was made and the ringing was heard but the screen is black. Is this something that can be fixed by myself or do I need to return the phone? Was there any way the screen was mistakenly turned off? Any help will be appreciated.
