Transformer still a good option?

So with the upcoming release of the Prime is the OG Transformer still a good option? I'm interested in possibly picking one up but not if the release of the Prime means the Transformer will go by the way side.

Asus has been great about updates. I would wait until the new one comes out and get the TF on the cheap. I love mine.

They stated that the first TF would get ICS. But even if it didn't all the apps available today will run fine on it as is.

That said, if I were looking to get a tablet today, I'd probably wait to get the TFP.

Since the Transformer Prime has the same RAM as the TF1 I don't see it as a huge upgrade advantage. Its faster and has a bigger HD not really game changers IMO. In the realm of software its an over achiever but not going to have a set of apps that far up there to require this power all that soon. Games are really the only interest here along with good battery life through advanced CPU management. I see both the TF and TF2 in the same league just the TF2 is like the sport model.

If it had 2GB of RAM I would hold out but the cost increase for me isn't worth it.

I think the Transformer Prime is certainly a game changer in nearly every aspect of the phrase. It's the first tablet that will run ICS as well as running the first SoC quad-core chip.

the prime is going to be an absolute beast. if you can afford it, i would hold out and wait, especially since its right around the corner.

that said, the transformer is plenty good, and will get updated to ICS as well. if you want to get a tablet for a little bit less than the price of the prime, then the OG transformer will serve you well. as some have already mentioned, fortunately asus is solid about providing updates

It also (reportedly) has a brighter screen. Which would be a good upgrade if a person wishes to use the thing outdoors. The TF is less than ideal in brightly lit outdoors settings.

While I don't see an overly compelling reason for someone already owning one of the 10.1" Honeycomb tablets to upgrade. I think a person would be silly to jump on one of them instead of waiting for the TFP to come out (unless they could get a really good deal.)

Since the price of the 32GB versions of the original Transformer and the Transformer Prime will be priced identically (insane) there's zero reason to get the original if you were looking at the 32GB version.

Makes sense. I guess I'm just on the fence about picking up the Prime solely because it is the latest in greatest. From what I have gathered Asus has done a good job supporting the Transformer and will continue to do so.

The TF1 is going for $249 from best buy on black friday IMO at that price point TF1 is a better option. For $499+dock u can get a much better notebook with much better specs than the TF2. And I know u are all totally blown away by the whole quad core concept but this isn't going to do anything the TF1 can't and for me atleast when something is double the price I am looking for it to do things the cheaper device can't.

Maybe my point is falling on ear that can't understand the limiting factor that RAM is.

Gamestop has permenantly dropped the price to 299.99, so it can only go down from there. I snagged mine for that price yesterday and I can say that I haven't had any real issues so far. Also, gamestop gives you 7 games along with it.

I did the same thing and love it so far. Definitely a great tablet and much better than the touchpad I used to have. Plus Asus has said it will get ICS and they are really good with updates.

This is actually my first tablet. I had a 64 gig iPod touch laying around and traded it in for credit for the transformer. So far it has been a pleasant experience.

I loved that when i got mine everything that i had from amazon and google was right there waiting for me. I already had all the apps I needed and most of the for free!

Had my TF since lauch but just got my dock delivered today - WOW - I did not think that I would use it tht much, but it is awesome. I am not officially leaving my laptop at home. My backpack just got cut in half in both size and weight.

I know that the tab is lighter and slimmer and the thrive has more ports, but I feel the TF strikes just the right balance between size/weight and ports - especially with the expenaability of the KB when needed.

PS - i have an ASUS case/stand that I will not be using anymore - will sell for cheap- PM if interested
