Traveling abroad with mytouch 3g

I am planning to travel to Europe in summer. I am going to unlock my device. With a prepaid sim from a European carrier it will probably cost a lot of money to use the data services on the phone. I am wondering if it is possible to access data services via wifi without a similar card in the phone. Thank you.

Yes, you can access & update your phone without a SIM card in it. I am living in Germany using an HTC Magic on 3g & WiFi, but if I wanted I could just pop out the SIM card and use it soley on WiFi. You may also want to try out APNdroid in the market.. it will help you with data access instead of using up all your prepaid credit.
