Traveling and updates

I realize this can apply to any Android phone besides the Pixel 2/2 XL, but I figured I'd post it here. If rumors are true and the production version of Android 8.1 comes out at the end of the year, I'll be out of the country on vacation at that time. Will that delay when I would get 8.1, or geography doesn't matter on release?

As long as you have a valid data connection (WiFi if roaming), you can download the update if it's been released for your region. Note that even then some accounts/devices will still see staged releases, so it might not hit your device that day.
