I'm off to Quebec, Canada for the first time with my droid phone and wondering if there is anything special I need to do. I suspect the data and phone charges are a bit high so I would like minimize any automatic data usage for any apps like email, updates, and etc.

Of course I assuming it will work in Canada like it does in the states.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If it was me... and I have not traveled to Canada, but I've heard that data charges are very, very high across the border... I'd turn off background sync'ing and just connect using Wifi... or at least minimize your sync times by turning it on for short bursts.

Contact your provider, that's the most important. Make sure you are set up for your trip.

I went to Canada a few years ago and my bill was pretty high when I got back to the States. Definitely a good idea to watch your usage up there.

As it turns out, VZW gave me a 1 week international roaming extension on my phone plan for $6.00. This gave me free roaming in Canada...great deal since voice calls went for $0.69/minute

As far as data goes, I did turn it off but when I did need it I found that my area has no data coverage so it ended up a moot point. I cussing that a bit since I have needed it only to find I didn't have a choice. I was willing to pay the $2.05/mb when needed.
