Hi All. This is my first post though i've been an avid reader for some time.

Last month I buried my finally dead blackberry and got on board the Android train with an Evo and I am loving it so far.

Then last week I found out that I am headed to Pertch, Australia for a couple months for work and of course my CDMA bound Evo will not work there. That isn't too bad necessarily since I don't think I'll really need a mobile as I'll be covered in the office and at the apartment I'll be in. However I would like something that uses a mapping application for getting around town (just walking and buses, no car). I've come up with 5 options that i think might work and would like to hear what the resident experts think.

1) Wait till I land and by a pre-paid HTC wildfire on Telsta.
2) Buy an unlocked Australian compliant 3G handset (desire maybe?) before I leave and then just purchase a pre-paid SIM card there.
3) By a garmin or other PND and load it with the appropriate maps. This might be a good option because when I get back I'll have a device ready to use here.
4) Since my sprint contract is still new, I could break it and go back to t-mobile and get the G2 and just incur whatever roaming charges.
5) Buy a pre-paid device like a blackberry before I leave and incur roaming charges.

Of course if anyone has any other ideas I'd appreciate them as well. Also if there's any aussies on the boards with suggestions for things to do in Perth I'll gladly take those as well :)

Thanks

Thanks Cloak. I took a look and that certainly seems like an option, especially for the price. Has anyone here used NDrive overseas with the GPS only? I've heard that sometimes CDMA phones can get confused if they are without their network for a long amount of time.
