I've tried KIES Air....rubbish! this view is endorsed by the samsung helpline!
They recommend the Full-Fat version on your PC.
That is where my problems got even worse!
Attempting to install the download from Samsung's site, it disconnected my WiFi card, and I later found that it blocked the installation of any future download from Microsoft.
Microsoft offered to correct the damage to my registry for ?65, as Vista was no longer supported;
Alternatively I might be lucky using System Restore.
Fortunately I ws lucky.
Complaining to Samsung, they offered to send me the software on a stick.
After waiting for ever for it to install, the first screen announces there is a newer version...would I like to download it?
Err....No!
Samsung to the rescue again with a promise of the latedst version on yet another stick; it was once more "Kies_2.3.3.12085_7_5.exe"
The afterdawn website shows that there are SEVEN versions released since this one!
They say that the CURRENT STABLE VERSION is VER:2.5.3 RELEASED APRIL 27th 2013.
I received a call from the KIES team, who informs me that ver. 2.3.3.12085_7_5 is the only one they have! ......Really?
They suggest that I should bypass Kies and just use drag and drop to move and organise media files.

This was what I was trying to avoid since I am aware of the Galaxy's reputation for "eating" sd cards, and I wanted to do everything properly.
I am still mistified as to how I am expected to back-up my phone and to insatll any android updates.
Anyone able to offer more sensible advice than Samsung's "help" line?
