Tried rooting but didn't work!!!

i was trying to root my OPO. This is because when i updated to CM12 is wiped my phone including certain apps, including the play store. after searching on youtube, it seemed as though the only solution was rooting...

so i followed a youtube video and it downloaded SuperSU (just like in the video), but it says there is no SU binary installed.

before i tried rooting i did try downloading the play store apk from the internet but this didnt work as a message kept on popping up about google play services, and the app would crash.

this is also my first time rooting, im a noob :)

Re: Tried rooting but didn't work!!!

SuperSU is what controlls su (not SU, there's a difference in Linux). Rooting is installing the su binary, you can't root by installing SuperSU.

(The problem is that in order to install the binary you already have to be rooted, so rooting consists of finding an exploit [a bug] in the particular ROM and using it to obtain root just long enough to install the su binary file. Once that's done, the only reason for an app like SuperSU is to keep viruses from obtaining root. (In Linux, every time you run su, you have to enter the root password. In Android, the app just calls su to give it root permissions. If there's a superuser app installed, like SuperSU, su asks the app if the app asking for root permission is allowed to have it. The superuser app assks you and remembers your choice.)

So ...

IIRC, there's a GAPPS package for CM, that will give you the Play Store and all the other Google apps, and you don't need to be rooted to install it.

And you'll have to find a root exploit for CM12 for the OPO - not every exploit works on every ROM on every phone. (The person who comes up with that will be wealthy in a few weeks. - just charge $10 for the app, program, or whatever, and find a bank with a large enough vault.)
