trouble connecting usb to car on galaxy s3

My phone connects fine to my car and my car reads it as windows media but it only plays the ringtone I downloaded from an app and 1 song every time I try to download or more songs over to my phone those songswon't play I know it definitely works just is there a type of format or specific folder it needs to be in in order to play my music
