Troubles with PHONE ear piece/Speakerphone

My Bionic has been goofing up lately. I don't know if it's soft wear or hard wear. When I receive a call or make a call, the ear piece is not working (no sound). If I turn the speaker phone on I can hear the conversation. If I pull the battery and reinstall, I usually can hear through ear piece. But only for a little while until it decides to do it again. It appears to be getting more frequent.
I tried pulling the battery twice today and it would not reset and work. I played with the mute button while on speaker phone and it had no effect....meaning it would not mute. It changed color as it should but had no effect as far as muting. However the ear piece started working. Do you think this is HARD WEAR and I need to make a warranty claim? I had the phone since September and I have the extended warranty through Bestbuy.
It is incredibly irritating when I try and answer a call and the blankety blank ear piece is not working. I don't often use the speaker phone if I can avoid it. My callers don't like it.
I have had little problem till now. Phone has been pretty darn good coming from a Blackberry TOUR. I can't be popping off the cover and pulling the battery all the time and playing with the mute button to hear a caller! Any suggestions please?

I believe the mute button only mutes the mic....say if you were talking to someone on the phone and your significant other comes up to ask you a personal question and you didn't want the person on the other end of the line to hear it you would hit the mute button and the mic would be muted, but you will still be able to hear them through the earpiece.

Not sure about your other issue with the earpiece but you could try and adjust the volume while you are "in a call" but NOT on speaker phone, although I think you have to pull it away from your ear and let the screen come on to do this.

Well today my ear piece would not work again. Speaker phone only if I want to hear the caller. I tried playing with the mute off and on while on speaker phone and it worked correctly. I tried the mute back and forth on ear piece to NO avail. I checked the call volume too.
I pulled the battery and reinserted it and the ear piece worked. I am so frustrated. I am going to go to best buy and see if they can identify a setting or application that may be causing this....or swap me out another phone. I can't live like this! I did the testing with my son and daughter and they were baffled as well. I consider them very technically gifted.

Hey....I think its the call volume rocker switch! When I touch it during a call it drops the ear piece out! If I go to speaker phone and then back...the ear piece works. Touch the volume rocker switch with my finger pushing it front to back....the ear piece drops out! Guess it is hardware! I'll be off to best buy to see what they plan to do for me. I did buy the extended service plan from them, although it is under Motorolas warranty for the 1st year. Hope they hook me up right away!

I went to best buy....I had their insurance plan. They gave me a new HTC Incredible 2 right out of the box as a loaner. My Bionic is being sent in by them for NEW replacement. They gave me back my SIM card and SD card with the phone back + battery. They said 3 days and I will have a new Bionic and they will give me a new SIM card. I hope that's the end of it.
