Android Central Question

I bought a new smartphone literally just today, a TP link X1 max, and after pairing the bluetooth controller device, it works very oddly, with only 2 keys working correctly in media mode (which just lower and raise the volume), while the rest just acts as keyboard keys, exactly like in this thread: (https://forums.androidcentral.com/general-help-how/759793-gametel-controller-now-keyboard.html)
My issue is that my controller DOES have different configurations for Android and iPhone (comparing to the linked thread), but there is no way to switch between those are they are apparently automatically detected (other than the fact that this might not be the issue)
I've tried switching in all 3 android "modes" the controller has (gaming mode, normal mode, media mode, which pretty much just change the keybinds), nothing changes.
The controllers seems to "move" the selection with arrow keys too, but it immediately registers as keyboard keys too, typing letters into google before i can do anything.
Is there any way to remap the controller buttons to "normal"? I've looked around and apparently it might just be the phone not having a driver/"scheme" for the controller to work, and trust hasnt released anything like it for download, thus rendering it unusuable like this, but i want to hope i can make it work.
Thanks in advance guys, you're my last hope.
If you need any more info, just tell me how to find it eventually and i'll post it.
