Trying to decide on a new phone...

Trying to decide what my next phone should be. I will be signing a contract with my carrier so I need something that will be good for 2 years. I'm switching from an iPhone 4 to whatever I end up getting. I've been looking at the One X+ on AT&T. I'm not opposed to switching carriers and I've also been eyeing the Droid Razr Maxx HD, however the quality of the camera on that device worries me a bit. I want decent battery life, good camera and a phone that will last me for two years. I really like the Razr Maxx HD, but the camera worries me a bit. I'm not a fan of the S3 as it feels too cheap to me. One other concern is which phone is most likely to get the future Android OS updates for as close to 2 years as possible and if not, I need something I can root so I can get them via custom ROMS if that's what it takes. I've been keeping an eye on CES announcements and it sounds like there is some good stuff coming in 2013, but there will always be something new. Do I wait a bit longer or pull the trigger now? I've had my iPhone 4 for 2.5 years and I'm ready for something soon so it's getting hard to wait. Was hoping to see an M7 announcement at CES, but...

Thanks for any advice!

I'm not sure you can get a great camera and 2 years of certain upgrades. About the only device that will come close to certain upgrades is a Nexus 4. If you are off contract and want to consider a prepaid plan, that might be the way to go. Even then, if you don't like it, you can easily sell the phone on Ebay and pick up another device on contract without paying an ETF.

Otherwise, I'd recommend you look at the development communities for devices on AT&T. As much as I like VZW, they make it hard on developers... Although CM10 on the VZW GS3 is nice.

I say get the one x+ if you like it, you can't go wrong with it. I had it for about a week but wanted a bigger display so got the note 2 instead. The 64Gb, quad-core cpu, Hd display, and sense 4+ for 199 ? I'd buy it again if I could keep my note 2 and it also lol. You should go for it, it's one of the top phones imo.:D

Thanks for all the input. The Note 2 is a bit too big for me, I think I'll go with the One X+. It's bootloader looks like it's unlockable so even if official updates stop coming, hopefully I can get some custom roms to fill the void until my contract is up in two years. I wish the Razr Maxx HD had a better camera as that would be a sure buy for me if it did.

Thanks,
Tim

Note 2 bootloader is now unlockable with a bunch of roms to choose from. But you have fun with that.

Thanks for all the advice! The DNA is a great deal, if only I could have more than 16gb storage I'd go for it! I think I'm going to go with the One X+ this time around, the camera and quad core won me over the Razr HD's crappy camera and dual core. Hopefully it's a good fit.

Thanks,
Tim
