Trying to figure out some issues on seting up my Merge

Hey everyone, I just bought an HTC Merge from US Cellular yesterday and I'm trying to get a better understanding of how to set it up.

The biggest problem I'm having is EVERY address I ever emailed to or received email from seems to appear in the contacts portion of my "Messages" tab. This includes contact info for a bunch of my FB friends to that I DON'T have under normal contacts. They don't show in my actual People menu, but they are on messages and it annoys the crap out of me. I'd much rather scroll through that quickly and add multiple people to a message if I need to.

Has anyone figured out a way to un-sync this from gmail and facebook?

If I un-sync it from google on the contacts settings menu then I have ZERO contacts. I have FB unchecked on that too, but FB contacts still show up in messages.

Another thing that annoys me about contacts is what looks like the inability to set a specific phone number as primary. I realize that anyone under the age of 50 is likely to use a cell phone as their primary number, but for people with multiple contacts I tend to not use mobile first. Yes my 75 yr old grandma has a cell phone, but she only takes it with on trips. It's more likely to have a dead battery then it is for her to answer it. I want to set home phone as the primary.

Also with contacts, can you ADD groups to the list? The US Cellular rep couldn't figure out that either. I actually have several people on my contacts who have a prefix to their name which is initials for some group I'm a part of so I can keep track of them together. I'd love to make a "car club" folder, etc. and put those contacts all there.

Besides that, any other general "Must have" apps you guys would recommend, or other tips and tricks?

well as far as setting a number as primary: if you press and hold on the number that you want to be the primary number it will come up with an option to set it as primary.

Are you using Google Voice as your voicemail provider? I find that it has the simplest access to maintaining your contacts and adding and administering your groups is very simple, much simpler than using the GMail site. Once you have assigned your contacts to your appropriate groups on the Web, on your Merge just goto People>Groups and then your Groups will populate and also indicate how many contacts you have assigned to each Group.
