tun.ko module for setting up openvpn [optimus slider]

I'm trying to setup openvpn, but it fails because tun.ko isn't present in the ROM I'm using (Rooted Deodexed Rom). I also tried using the tun.ko app in the play store. The app downloads and loads a tun.ko module which allows me to connect, but fails (phone cold reboots) when I try to use the connection.

Do any of these ROMs include the tun.ko module? If not can someone build a tun.ko module to share or help with instructions on how to do it myself?
