Does anyone know of a way to turn off 5g ?
The normal way doesn't show up in network mode like before.
I'm using a s21 unlocked on verizon.
Right now 5g is so spoty I rather stay locked to lte

Setting-Connection-mobile networks.
Shows up for me on the unlocked model on tmobile. Could be because of Verizon SIM that removes certain option.

T-Mobile SIM allows option. On my S20 ultra TM technical department told me to keep it on 5G even though my 5G signal is weak at my house

My Verizon has no switch for it. Does anyone know if the 4g Sim I moved over from my Note 10+ allows for 5g?

Sorry I didn't notice the 5G.. I thought was to turn off the phone

Automatic or manual .
If you choose manual a bunch of networks pop up and and you choose Verizon.

Why would anyone want to turn off 5G? I thought it was the new big thing that was going to change the world and raise phone and plan prices? (Sarcasm Alert :p )

In my initial speed tests for the unlocked S21 Ultra on TMO, I was getting <1 Mbps on 5G, vs >50Mbps when I set it to LTE only. But after going back and forth a few times, I'm consistently getting >150Mbps on 5G. So maybe it took a little while for the new phone to be properly provisioned or something.

So I guess the consensus is that you can't turn it off? I'm in SG21U unlocked on Verizon.

Does this affect our battery

You should be fine, the radios will be tuned to optimize for things like this and when you aren't in a 5G area etc. I never turn off anything on my phone and easily get thru battery without any problem. Just ignore it and enjoy the phone.

https://amp.reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/k5gr18/psa_how_to_disable_5g/ No offense but we aren't iPhone users. We don't just "Ignore it" and "enjoy/use our phones" lol in case this link on Reddit with an actual answer wasn't found wanted to share it. Works perfectly and so glad I don't have to deal with the auto-switching draining my battery as well as being forced to use low speed 5G over 100+Mbps 4G. I'm sure in the future it'll be opposite but for now I can choose what's working best. Since the phone doesn't actually "optimize" connections it prioritizes connections. And with the app I linked the Reddit to (can download from playstore) YOU choose what it prioritizes. 4g or 5g

I don't get why someone would want to turn off 5G. The phone will automatically switch to best network available and no, this doesn't kill your battery. It would be like switching off wifi when you aren't at home so your phone isn't constantly searching for wifi networks. Who does that? Just let it do it's thing.

FWIW, AT&T does not allow the option to turn off 5G. As other posters have said, better to leave it on. I do all my downloading and streaming on wifi, so makes no difference to me.
