Turn off auto correct but leave spell check

I have looked many places on this one and couldn't find any answer so I thought I would give this a try.

I really like my 8.9, but I am struggling with the keyboard and auto correction. Is there a way, or even another keyboard, that would provide spell check but no auto-correciton?

I am used to using a Droid where it does just that. It offers suggestions, but only changes your word if you select the word. I keep finding on the 8.9 that I look at my messages and everyone's name has been changed and abreviations are modified, all kinds of issues.

Any suggestions on this one?

Try the Swype keyboard or purchase a third party keyboard like Swiftkey Tablet X.
