Turn off screen without locking phone

My phone is password protected. When traveling on a long trip using Google Maps, is there a way to blank the screen to save battery and then go back to the map without having to reenter my password? I am on Android 6.0.1.

You may be able to change the time interval that is allowed to pass before the sleeping device requires a password entry.

Also, make sure that 'power button instantly locks' is unchecked in your security settings.

Yes, I was using an iPhone and couldn't quite remember all the details.
On my LG G4, 'Lock Timer' is above 'Power button instantly locks', in Settings, Lock Screen.

(Anything that Tasker can read will work - it has an "unlock the password [or passcode] function. (I think that might be in the https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...leobject.securesettings.plugin&token=KEGXEq0v addon, but it's free. Tasker isn't, but it's cheap for what it does.)
