Turn on/off with case open/close

A side from buying a Samsung case that does this, is there any trick out there to make the phone turn on and off with the open and close of a case Cover?

How does the samsung case turn the phone on and off with open/close of the cover?

Pretty sure it uses the same sensor that turns off the screen when the phone is held to your ear.
