Turn screen off but keep app running when idle

Hello, I am looking for an app suggestion. I've been trying to find an app for awhile now with no avail, I just don't know how to google the question.

I would like for the screen to turn off or just make it black when the phone idles for a few seconds. Kind of like if I'm driving and don't touch the phone for a while or the proximity sensor doesn't detect anything then turn the screen off, but if I am using it or the proximity sensor is detecting something then keep it on. This without putting the phone to sleep.

Any suggestions? I'd reallllyyy appreciate it. I'll keep looking around. Thank you.

Many solutions, the first is built into Android as trusted locations. Set your screen timeout as you want, but pick up the phone and it will awaken. Google the steps for your particular phone. Other apps are available to keep it awake based on wifi connected to, or bt saved connection. Have fun
