Turning a Razr into a Maxx

Hi, I've been looking to get a Maxx, but I've been waiting for the price to drop a little. I'm still rocking the OG Droid, so it's definitely time to upgrade.

I can get the 16GB Razr for $149 or the Maxx for $249.
When I talked to CS, they said I could order a Razr with the extended battery and case (same as the Maxx she confirmed) for $39.98. So essentially, I could turn the Razr into the Maxx for $189. I know it won't have the additional 16gb SD card...but I have that in my Droid, so I can just put it in the phone.

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? I thought the specs were the same for the phones (minus the battery) so I can't see a reason not to save the additional $60.

I don't know what she was talking about, but the only way to add an extended battery to the Razr is to get one of the external microUSB battery packs which would be bulky and dangle from the phone. The Razr and Razr MAXX batteries are non-removable, so unless she was telling you to void your warranty by cracking open the phone, I think she was mistaken.

I asked her specifically about this...as I thought that removing the back voids the warranty.
She said that I order it with the phone, and Verizon installs it for you.

How many times do we have to say: Don't listen to any CS Rep.

The battery on both the Razr and Razr Maxx are NOT removable. There is NO way to make a Razr into a Razr Maxx.

It's your money but she sounds completely confused. You're better off just buying the MAXX than dealing with the hassle this is gonna cause (which will end with you still buying a maxx or getting stuck with a regular razr).

I just got off the phone with Verizon. She was wrong. I figured since she had to go "check" to verify that this was the Maxx battery, that maybe her supervisor knew what they were talking about. The person I just spoke to said that battery isn't in their system.
Oh well. Got my hopes up for nothing.

Thanks for the help anyway!

Cs reps aren't the brightest bulb in the knife drawer. When I needed help with my Motorola DROID, the rep kept referring it to the original Android phone. Or the first android phone.

Well, just to play devil's advocate, wasn't it Verizon's first android phone?
