I have searched the forums/web for an answer to this question but if it exists, it is buried in discussions of related problems.

The screen on my wife's phone (Samsung Epic 4g) died and so we are trying to move the data off the phone. Normally, you press the
"Turn on USB storage" button to see the storage when connected to a computer. Since the screen is dead, that is not possible.

Is there a way to initiate USB storage mode from the computer?

Thanks!!!

Plug it back into your PC using USB of course. Go to "My Computer" and see if you get lucky and see it there as the named device or removable media. If you can see it right click on properties to see if you can do what you want from there. If you can see it you should be able to get off the phone what you want.

Thanks for the note. I tried that but it does not appear. On my Nexus S the disk does not appear until you press the button on the phone's screen. I am guessing it is the same for the Epic 4g.

Seems like there ought to be a way to turn on the mode remotely -- although it also seems like they might not make it possible due to security concerns.
