Turning the Phone on

I have not activated my phone yet but when I turn it on I see the option to choose English and then it says next and wants to activate

Is there a way to turn the phone on and be in the menu and apps without activating?

I am not ready to activate yet because I am waiting for my case, screen protectors, etc

Pretty sure you have to activate in order to use the phone?

I could be wrong, but as I understand it, Verizon automatically activates after a # of days (I think it's 3 days).
