Turning Touchkey Backlight into Notification

I saw this posted for the Galaxy S I9000: [MOD] BackLightNotification v2.3.1 (froyo) - led notifications by touchkey backlight - xda-developers

It turns the touchkey backlights on for notifications. Since we also have no external notification light, this would be a good idea to port over. It works by modifying: \system\lib\hw\lights.XXX.so
This would involve compiling a custom kernel with this mod in it. Any devs interested in this?

You get extra brownie points if you make it compatible with this control app: https://market.android.com/details?id=neldar.bln.control.free

Otherwise, the button lights turning on/blinking for any notification would be perfect.

Many of us have been using Keylights 0.2, but it only works for calls and text. I would also like to see this ported over.

Why am I always behind on these apps? I swear, there should be a recommended app list for the optimus V. Thank you for that!
I agree that added functionality for im/gtalk and other notifications would be nice.

Here is a link to the app: KeyLights 0.2 - Capacitive Lights As Notification - Updated June 3, 2010
And a mirror as the OP files are corrupt: KeyLights-0.2.apk

I agree it would be nice to get a stickied post with "must" have apps for the V.
Kinda blows the S has multiple forums for general roms and such and we have one single sub forum.

I copied the sticky about light notification from the Optimus S thread over to here as well. The reason that is a sticky is because it's something specific to an optimus user. A Hero, EVO, N1 (insert almost any android phone sanz moment, NS, and optimus series) would never benefit from and never install them. A list of apps that are just random apps from the market that people enjoy, but not specific to this style of phone, would not be a sticky because we expect them to work. 99% of apps will work with a 1st gen arm6 528MHz processor so the fact they work with a 2nd gen armv6 600MHz should come as no surprise.

With the same logic though, I would have a sticky about apps that DO NOT work with this phone with the understanding that, it's not just going to be 50 pages of single posts of "this doesn't work" because nobody is going to read the whole thread. If it were a nice clean organized list, that is being maintained by the OP, that would be great. Some examples: flash, shoutcast feature of winamp (unless stagefright is enabled), Some stations in NPR (unless stagefright is enabled), Gun bro's ...... you see what I'm getting at.

I can get a rooting/roms/hacking sub forum setup but make sure you guys are creating content to populate it. If it becomes stagnant that does not bode well for developers.

Talking about notifications I use "NoLED".
It's free and works very well after setup..

However a legit key light would be nice as well.

I think Eollie meant a sticky for apps that help make specifically the V better.

Each phone has it's own specs and hardware, and there are apps that can help you to utilize it better (a notification light on a phone without the hardware is a good example). A listing of these apps is always appreciated by newbies and veterans as well.

Thanks for the reply KSmith.
Im sure we could keep the roms and such subs goings just the ones we have now in this forum see lots of traffic.

I understand what your mean by apps that work for all devices and such. Jerry is dead on with what I was meaning, things like the notification app and others in that nature. Maybe have a non sticky thread to submit and a locked sticky that is maintained like weekly or something. That way we dont have a sticky that gets filled with useless comments or spammed with useless apps.

Taking on your idea of a thread of non working apps, it could work similar you submit a app to be tested and if say 5 people confirm it doesnt work it gets moved to the sticky thread.

Not tryin to create more work for the mods, as I know you guys have a tough job. Just wanna help out the V people to find stuff easier.
