Requirements:
1) A custom recovery (thunderc or xionia)
2) Thunderom 1.8
3) Lgmobile updater tool

Procedures:
1. Download Thunderom 1.8 and flash it
2. Go to the Lg updater tool and update to VD
3. Flash Thunderom 1.8, reboot and it will be rooted :)

Thanks to the guys in the forums that helped me figure this out :)

I already had TR 1.7, so I saved TR.1.8 onto the root of my sd card. Updated to ZVD using the LG Updater tool, then flashed TR 1.8. No problems whatsoever and the wi-fi tether works great. I'm using it right now :D

EDIT: It is good practice to do a NAND backup between steps 1 and 2.

It worked like a charm for me. Thanks for the instructions! Thank goodness for my nandroid backup, though. The LG tool wiped everything off of my phone and I had to do a restore to get it back.

worked great for me didnt even need to back up LG didnt wipe my info.
None of the LG updates (nor the OTA updates) so far will touch your /data partition.

You backup not because LG will wipe your info, it doesn't. You backup in case something goes wrong, which is always potentially a possibility.

Wow sounds simple enough.. Does this procedure only work from VC and TR1.7? I'm currently still running V9 under TR1.6.2...

Did you save the TR 1.8 file at the root of your sd card? If so, all you have to do is power off your phone, then press volume down, home, and power very hard at the same time until your custom recovery comes up, which may take a few seconds so be patient, just keep pressing. Then unzip TR 1.8. Power off your phone once that is done and then when it comes back up you will have TR 1.8 and root back.

I would suggest clearing the dalvik and normal cache and stuff as it says inthe thunderom thread

Did you get everything working? Sorry I'm not getting back to you bedore now but we had some friends drop by last night. To answer your question in case you still need an answer, I just installed everything right over it and still had all my apps and setup and everything.
