Greetings. I have a Samsung Note 8 that has performed well until yesterday. The last android update has been on there for a few weeks and I have not installed any recent apps. Although of course apps are updating all the time in the background.
The first time I had a blank screen and power button did not do anything and plugging into a charger did not do anything. Strangely I could swear my S2 watch said it was still connected? But anyway phone would not do anything.
I did the power button/volume down for 15 seconds and the recovery menu came up and I did a normal reboot and all seemed well.
Then later in the day it froze on the "always on display". I could see the always on display but again, no bottoms or fingerprint reader did anything. Ah oh......
Last night I used my cache cleaner and deleted some of the larger app cache's (google play had a big one) but wondered if anyone had any further suggestions. I have never done the recovery menu cache clean (That is a scary menu if you pick the wrong item!
) but don't know if that would make a difference of what the impact is if you do that.
I know support's default answer is "reset the phone to factory and re-store everything to see if it is a software issue". I get that but it is like saying "just re-install windows"! Both might work but it is a pain to reset everything up so wonder if there are any other suggestions.
Or.....is this a foregone conclusion that with the Note 8 doing this that I have a hardware issue. I know I can get a replacement, but of course it will be "like new" not "new"...
If the phone was a year or two old I would probably get a replacement to be safe. But given it is so new, I want to make sure it is hardware before I go that route.
FWIW today it is fine so far....
Thanks,
BJB1
