Two possible issues?

Picked mine up last night and love the build quality, phone feel's very sturdy and sleek. Call quality as well as wifi strength are both very strong. Had two possible issues I was a little concerned about so wanted to reach out to the board for feedback.

1) Battery life. I brought my entire family for Verizon to enable me to get this phone. My sole reason, have never thought having a smartphone capable of doing so many things and having to chase a charger all the time to keep it going. Customer service person had it charging for about 3 hours before I picked it up. Used it a few hours last night and left it on to charger overnight, about 7 hours. Based on what I have read, this phone should have tremendous battery life. After 12.5 hours of moderate use, mostly on standby in my pocket, I am at about 24%. I know it takes a few cycles to get full life out of it, but I didn't think it would make that much of a difference?

2) Heat. Phone felt like it was on the warm side in my front pocket, even though it wasn't being used for anything and was just in standby. I could be off on this one though as it was a pretty hectic day at work so maybe was just my imagination or something but figured I could use other peoples experience to help me gauge it.

Thanks in advance for any help or info, it is much appreciated.

If your phone was warm than you probably have a rogue application running in the background. This would in turn sacrifice your battery life and would explain your first question. Check anything including email that's not part of the Gmail app, social network such as Facebook and Twitter, etc. I know for a fact twitter syncs every hour unless changed. Weather bug also updates ever hour or so unless changed to the maximum of 6 hours like I do.

We've been discussing this in another thread. One thought is that the clock widget may be the culprit. Have you looked at your battery statistics? Has the screen been on for an interview credibly long time? Another thought is that some units may just be snake bit. If by about 1 tomorrow I see a big drain its getting exchanged.

Screen shows 47% of battery use but on all my Droids the screen has always been the biggest culprit with battery usage, I tried to look through all the posts before starting a new thread to see if someone else had something similiar going. Guess I missed that lol

What amount of time does the screen show on?

2hrs 29 mins

That's not horrible but its not good for a Maxx either. Did you delete the clock widget from the home screen? As mentioned earlier, it seems that's a concern. Any auto updates will be negative also.

I didn't, I actually really like the circles widget, and should that really ding the battery that bad? I remember them stating 13hrs of video playback, that would be a horrendous drain of power compared to a power hungry widget wouldn't it? I guess I am just trying to figure out if I have the one out of a bunch dud with a weak battery and if I should look into exchanging it tomorrow? Thank you for taking the time to share info with me, I have owned just about every smartphone out there but never one with anything near the battery capacity this is supposed to have inside.

I doubt it since your screen time isn't off the chart. Give it a few more days and see if it gets any better. I know my original RAZR Maxx got better on day 2 or 3. I also like the circle widget but I'm doing some tests to see if I have issues with it. I have not seen any difference in battery yesterday or today even with or without the widget. We shall see

I will take your advice and give it a few days to see how it goes, thanks again

I charged mine to 100% took it off the charger yesterday morning at 7 am and haven't charged it since. Been on wifi most of the time since, used about 2 hours of bluetooth connection, 2 hours of mixed 4G and 3G, a few phone calls, about an hour worth of fiddling with set up and still had 62% battery this morning at 8:30 am.

Took mine off of the charger about 40 mins ago and have been using it decently since and am down to 93 percent. I am not sure what is going on

The heat is a little concerning. When my RAZR MAXX HD is standby, there is no warmth at all. Even with the screen on, running apps, and downloading stuff, it takes some time for it warm up, and even then, it really only warms up a moderate amount. Have you tried doing a factory reset, and running for 24 hours with no additional apps installed, to see if something you've downloaded is causing the issue.

The battery drain, and the warm phone even when in standby, together seems to indicate that something is running and using a lot of juice. I have a number of items installed, including the clock widget, and my battery and phone temperature are fine. However, this is my second MAXX HD - the first one kept rebooting, and would take 10-15 minutes to do a factory reset (this one takes about 5 minutes). So, if doing a factory reset (and not installing any third-party apps), your phone is still warm and battery life is poor, I would return it for a replacement unit.

Are you on auto brightness? What widgets are you running? Any apps that require syncing?

Auto brightness, Beautiful Widgets SuperClock with 30 minute weather refresh (replaced circles), push exchange email on my corporate server, GPS on. Took about a five minute phone call today, on 4G and Bluetooth for about an hour this afternoon, quick check of twitter and FB while on 4G and battery now shows 53% left.

Okay I've had it. I'm off to the store to get an exchange. I use all push email (gmail) and one pop account that syncs every 4 hours. FB is set to sync at the maximum possible interval. Weatherbug syncs every 2 hours. That's it.
