Considering switching from a Blackberry Curve 8330 to the Droid Incredible. I had to questions first:

Contacts- Currently, I have a about 200 phone numbers in my Blackberry phonebook. These are all mostly phone numbers (no email addresses). On the other hand, for email, I use the native Gmail app instead of the stock Blackberry email client. Anyway, my Gmail contact list has about 1000 contacts (email addresses) which includes email addresses of professors, colleagues, and other random people that Gmail automatically added to my contact list. It?s good to have these just in case. Now, what happens when I get my Droid Incredible? When I sync it to my Google account, will it bring over all those useless (professors, etc.) contacts and put them into my phonebook/address book? I don?t want to scroll through thousands of useless entries to find someone I?m looking for. Essentially, is it possible to keep my phone number address book separate from all my email address contacts?

) Reliability of GChat- I usually use BBM and the native GChat app on Blackberry to keep in contact with friends. How reliable is ghcat though compared to BBM? For example, if someone sends me a message and I am out of service (in the NYC subway for example), will I eventually receive the chat when I get service back? BBM works this way, but does Gchat. Have most of you found Gchat to be reliable and do messages always go through? Does Gchat log you out after inactivity? How was the switch from BBM to Gchat?

THANKS!

1. You are able to view only people with phone numbers ;)

2. Sorry don't use

Thanks, how do I go about doing #1? Is it simply an option in settings?

Also, that thread is 49 pages. I don't want to spend two hours looking through it for an answer.

Yes it is a option when you are in your people contact list you go to menu>view> only contact with phone numbers.

gchat isn't as reliable as BBM. it will randomly log me out or show me as offline. it gets the job done but not quite as nice as BBM was

Dude, quit thinking and do it. Storm to Incredible was the best decision I have made in the mobile arena. Way to many benefits that out-way anything blackberry has to offer. This is me coming from a blackberry for 4 years, I was the biggest proponent for RIM. They have dropped the ball, actually they have lost the ball IMO.

BTW, I am typing this on my iPad hooked to my droid incredible access point. :)

As for your questions, contacts are way better on the droid incredible. Just the contact linking option alone blows away BB. You can link an exchange contact to a Facebook contact to a gmail contact. Shows up as one contact, simply amazing. Tons of options for communications other than BBM. I use a sweet push to talk app that is free.

I just made the same move. Why not set up a new gmail acct? Sync the "good contacts" to it and then either forward email to it, or give people the new addy.

I use Meebo instead of gchat. It also has YM and others. It doesnt seem to disconnect me much.

How do you make your Inc an access point? I know how to tether, is there an app that does that or do you have to root?

1) you can type in the persons name to search for them rather than scrolling through thousands of useless people.

2)GChat is as reliable as BBM. I am guessing the people that say it is not are running a task killer which logs them out all of the time. This is exactly what happened to me and I hated it. GChat works just like bbm, you are unavailable while on the phone but all other times it works great. If you ever miss a message on GChat, it gets sent to your phone as an email through your corresponding GMail account.

Make the jump. You really will not regret it at all. I came from the Storm2 and I have no regretted it for one second.
