I have rooted my grouper and installed twrp recovery (goo manager) and was able to perform back up. I have installed a few apps since the and wanted to do another back up but somehow errors out (red exclamation point),and then goes back yo home screen. Still running default ROM and kernel but would like to perform a backup before hand. Thanks in advance.

Reflash your recovery, then using Root Explorer (or similar file explorer) navigate to the "/system" folder, and rename "recovery-from-boot.p" to "recovery-from-boot.bak" which will make your custom recovery stick.

I am having a similar issue with CWM recovery. I boot into fastboot and then then choose recovery mode. The tablet then freezes at the "google" loading screen. I can hold power and it will boot normally. Do you suggest this same fix? Will I need to reinstall super.su and reroot the device after I reflash recovery?

Also, can you please expand on the custom recovery stick thing? When I change the file extension, what is it doing exactly? I noticed that my extension is currently "recovery-from-boot.p"

There is a bug in the grouper bootloader which requires the tablet be plugged into the computer if you are trying to boot to recovery from the bootloader.

Regarding the 2nd question.. That file keeps you from permanently flashing a custom recovery. If it exists unchanged you can boot into a custom recovery but not flash it permanently. Changing the filename or just deleting the file solves that issue (I just delete it from the stock OS, and any custom ROM you flash will have it removed already, so I recommend just getting rid of it).

Oh great. That is exactly my issue. Thanks for the explanation!

Edit: So I went into fastboot and tried to go into recovery mode with the tablet connected to my pc and I received the red ! symbol. I was able to boot normally by holding my power button but I would like to create a backup image of my tablet. Should I try to reflash recovery? I have backed everything important up using TiBU (pretty much just some saved games from emulators and other apps).

Edit 2: So I was able to load CWM with my command prompt. I do not know why it wouldn't work using the fastboot interface but I am currently creating my backup. Any insight to this would be appreciated!

As far as "recovery-from-boot.p", should I delete it permanently or just change the extension to .bak?
