Type C to HDMI don't working on Android A50 phone

I bought this cable so I could connect my phone to my tv:

When I connect the cable to my phone the screen turns on but nothing shows on the tv. Is there something I need to change in the phone settings or is this phone not compatible with this cable?

Be careful when shopping online for these kinds of cables. Many stores will disingenuously advertise cables saying they work on phones that don't support that function.:-\

There is no cable option available, if it doesn't support HDMI out it doesn't support video. You need to share your screen wireless via something like Chromecast.

That's one of the most confusing aspects of USB C, the connector itself supports video but the hardware it's attached to also needs to support video out.

The cable would probably work on a different phone that actually supports HDMI out. But as already mentioned above, no cable will work on the A50, because it doesn't support the function.
