Typing is worse than ever!

Well, OK, I'll try unplugging it and typing and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas. I would never have thought of that.

That used to bug me so much too. Look in the Google Keyboard settings under the Advanced section. There is a toggle for using multiple language support....uncheck that.

I can't find that. Can you tell me how to find Google Keyboard advanced settings?

Settings>Language & Input, then tap the Settings icon next to Google Keyboard, then scroll down to Advanced Settings.

Thanks for the quick response, BD, but I don't see " a toggle for using multiple language support" to uncheck. The closest thing I see is "Language Switch Key", but I don't think that's it.

I'm using Android version 4.4.2

Bummer George.....it was that Language Switch Key.....I see now also with my 4.4.2 this has no effect. I thought it worked with 4.4. I will do some checking now..

Its still good but for some reason google finds it necessary to change the sounds to make them 'cute' all the time but it doesn't bug me that much

Sent from my Nexus 7 2013

How new is your N7? I think you may be having a hardware problem. If you have already tried factory resetting and wiping cache, I would strongly consider the warranty route. You should not be having this many problems with the keyboard.

I haven't been typing on it enough the last few days to test it and see if typing works good with charger detached, as suggested above. If it still doesn't, then I'll try the last suggestion, and if that doesn't work I could do the warranty thing. I'm reluctant to do that right now because, much to my surprise, I have come to rely on this thing. I didn't think I'd have much use for a tablet! Now I want to get a bigger one too and am waiting for the next gen 10 inchers to come out. Then I'll have a backup and could return it for warranty repair if necessary. What's the turnaround time when you do return it for warranty repair?

I bought my N7 the first day it came out at BB, but then I returned the first one and got another a week later because the first one stopped charging amongst other problems, so it is still from the earliest batch.

No difference with charger on or off, same multiple and wrong key taps, actually seems to be getting worse.

Afraid I'm going to have to return it, especially now that I'm starting to have trouble with the sound too.

I might have to issue an official apology. I got a different stylus and it has helped a lot with the typing, I got the new one at Sams club and it only cost about $6, hardly more than the cheapo store $5 one I was using before.

That's great! No need for apologies. It's good enough if you're happy with your device!

Definitely sounds like the touch screen issue to me. I have had it on 2 of my Nexus 7 (2013) as well as frequent random restarts. The first time I sent back to Asus and it took a month only to get it back and have it restart within the first hour of use. Luckily I purchased from Google Play so I gave them a call and they sent me a new one. Unfortunately, it has the same exact issues so another new one will be arriving tomorrow. Hopefully the third time is the charm. Best of luck to you I definitely recommend making a warranty claim and hopefully you bought it from the Play store because Asus customer service is horrendous.

I bought it from Best Buy on opening day, and then I returned it and got a new one a week later because the first one stopped charging. Tell me about Asus! There is a long thread I made on the laptop review website about the enormous hassle it was when I returned my Asus laptop to them for warranty repair 3 years ago. I don't want to go through that again if I don't have to. I can live with the typing on the n7, and I'm thinking I'll have the same problem with any of them. Some people say that the typing is fine on theirs, but maybe it's just the way they type.

I may buy an 8 or 10 inch Samsung when they come out with the new ones, and then perhaps I might return the n7 when I'll have a backup tablet, because it took over two months for me to get my laptop back from them 3 years ago. The only computer company that I ever dealt with that was worse than Asus was Sony.

The best computer company I ever dealt with was IBM before it became Lenovo. They repaired and returned my laptop under warranty in one day!
