So I've got my Rezound unlocked and rooted, so as you all know, the OTA update will fail. I've already made the mistake of misunderstanding the difference between what Titanium does in terms of backing apps and data and what Clockwork does as in making an image backup if I understand this correctly, so the backup ship has sailed so-to-speak. For whatever reason Titanium doesn't see my backup when I attempted to restore it. But OTA Rootkeeper is intact.

I did a factory reset out of the bootloader menu thinking that would resolve the OTA update issue. It didn't, it still fails and I'm still unlocked and rooted. I'm not sure at this point if the new firmware is worth it.

I'm scratching my head over which direction I should go. I do have the root backup via Rootkeeper, but should I just go with CleanRom 1.6 or just blow this thing up and start from scratch?

Are you on a custom recovery or do you have the stock recovery? I am unlocked and rooted and only froze the bloatware. So basically stock with the exceptions previously mentioned. My OTA update went fine. I just unfroze the bloat, ran OTA Rootkeeper, accepted the OTA update, restored my root via OTA Rootkeeper, refroze the bloat and all is well. Sounds like you did something different or you have a non-stock recovery.

If you used Amon Ra or CWM, you're not gonna be able to get the OTA.
Also, and I'm sure this is either untrue or being confused for a different error the users made, but some are saying they had to re-lock in order to get the update.
Remember to restore any bloatware you might have frozen. If you deleted any entirely, then you're OTA ship has sailed as well. Unless of course you want to flash the stock ROM or RUU.

This is why I figured I was going to need a custom ROM from here on out. When I unlocked and rooted my phone, I got a little too carried away with my new found "freedom" and nuked all the bloat away thinking that I would never need to see it again. Never would I have guessed that things like the Blockbuster app would have had anything to do with getting firmware updates. I already tried to reinstall everything, but that didn't work.

Now I'm looking into ROM flashing/recovery tools. Specifically, how to install this Amon-Ra I keep seeing referenced. This with CleanRom 1.6 probably makes the most sense right now as ClockworkMod isn't compatible with the Rezound. I'm scouring the web looking for step by step instructions on some of this stuff that keeps the lingo as reasonable as possible.

Don't worry. I also used my powers to crush bloat into oblivion. The OTA seems to have caused more headaches than any fixes, so we didn't miss out. If anything, devs will eventually implement any updates into their newer ROMs.

CWM spoiled tons of us, as have Scott's tools. If you're feeling in the DIY mood, you can follow the guide posted above or check out some of the walkthroughs on XDA. I'm feeling like the Rezound will never see CWM support, especially since Koush is wrapped up with making it touch-based on the Nexus.

Tried it, those steps didn't work and may not be worded clearly enough in some critical parts. Do I rename the file to PH98IMG? Do I unzip and extract the image and move that to the external card? Does external card mean in "ext_sd" folder or literally on the external storage? It's somewhat unclear to me.

They are one and the same, it's a unix thing called a mount point. Best way is to connect to your computer as disk drive then copy over. It helps you see the 2 different sd cards (internal and external) as 2 different windows drives so it's less confusing.

You need to rename the file to PH98IMG.zip, do not extract the image.

Still no go. According to the guide, you're supposed to receive a prompt to install the recovery and I'm not getting that.

Edit: USB debugging wasn't checked, I wonder if that might have been a factor. But considering that a USB connection isn't a factor other than file transfer, probably not.
