I'm not trying to hate, I really want honeycomb to do well. With that said, am I the only one that finds stock honeycomb, well... ugly?

I'm a very visual person, and aesthetics are important to me. I think their important to the general consumer as well. I took issue with Android's lack of polish when it first came out as well, which pushed me to the then more visually appealing palm pre. Android has really improved it's look/feel with recent releases, and now I've preorderd the Nexus S 4G.

I really want to want the Xoom, but I don't. It just doesn't look good to me. Anybody else feel the same way? Do you think we can expect some better manufacturer UI's in the future?

I don't think Matthias Duarte had much input on Honeycomb. He was brought in too late. It certainly doesn't look nearly as refined as we would expect from the man responsible for the WebOS UI. If definitely think the next version will look 3x better.

Looking at the Asus Transformer, I think that just having a less industrial looking default theme makes far superior first impression than the Zoom's stock experience. There's way to much of a sci-fi aesthetic to appeal to mainstream customers (e.g. the stereotypical "Grandma").

I would agree with that.

Although I also think that has something to do with Motorola. They seem to embrace the ?clinical? look in their mobile products. Every Motorola handset goes out of its way (from the casing to the ugly ?eye? wall papers) to look industrial and sci fi. As if they are only marketing to 23 year old IT dungeons and dragons guys. Just looking at the newly released Iconia, it is much more inviting than the Xoom.

That said, changing the dark background can do a lot.

I think 3.0 is still "baby" form. Nothing is developed or matured. Give it a few months to learn to walk. :)
