Hi All,

Thanks to the help of most of you I successfully rooted my phone. The only thing I've done so far is delete a few bloatware apps (CityID, Amazon, VZ Navigator, Skype and Visual Voicemail).

I realized that I better do a Nandroid Backup, but did I just drastically mess up by deleteing those apps with Titanium first? Does ROM Manager do a nand backup or do I have to do it through recovery?

Thanks for any advice that you can provide.

P.S. I'm not going to flash a ROM until aI do a little more reading first. ROM manager seems a little too easy and I am assuming that I could run into problems down the line with it.

You should probably have made a full nandroid including the bloatware apps just incase you ever want to take an OTA update. Other than that, you can always load up the original RUU file...I think its on the ROM's and Mods HQ page.

ROM manager will make nandroids and it says it can do pretty much everything else for you when flashing a ROM. Be skeptical. ROM manager, while a good app and fairly handy, has some real issues when it comes to doing full data wipes and factory resets which are necessary when switching ROMs. As you read through most threads about problems with flashing ROM's you see that the answer is invariably "ROM manager is not wiping properly and you should do it manually". Save yourself a lot of heartache when you start flashing and learn to flash manually through recovery. It's the only way I flash ROMs and with the exception of some of the "Z" ROM's I've never had any problems.

Another tip for ROM changing is to download the ROM straight to your phone from whatever site it is posted on. Then use a file manager like Astro (free app) to move it to the SD card.

That should pretty much start you off. Any prob's give a shout...loads of good peeps on this site always willing to help.

As a general rule of thumb, never delete the bloatware, just rename it. It will not run and CitiID.apk.bak is easier to undo in a pinch than -----------------. ;)

However no harm, no foul.

When the OTA comes, just be patient and wait for a Rooted OTA to come out. Then you will be good to go.

Theoretically making a nandroid in either ROM Manager or Recovery is the same, in ROM manager though you can at least rename it to something more user friendly.

Regardless, be sure to periodically make a copy of your SD Card to your computer. I have about 10 snapshots of my SD card over the months. You never know what you might want later.

Thanks a lot. I guess I better backup npw at least to have something that is working, lol. I guess I got so excite to finally have root access, that I lost my mind.

Defiantly understandable, I made the same mistake when I rooted my phone. Back up what you have, and when the OTA update comes out you'll have to either unroot and return to stock or wait for a rooted version of the OTA to be released.

Definitely start using recovery to backup and flash. I've seen too many people become dependent on ROM Manager and then have an issue where the phone would not load the rom and they didn't know what to do. While RM is nice to have, if your phone doesn't fully boot, you'll need to know how to get into recovery and fix it.

Welcome to a whole new world for your phone.
