My phone temp goes from like low 80s at rest to 100+ doing this! Im guessing the Otterbox Defender really keeps that heat in huh? My Note 8 with a Otterbox on wireless didnt have that issue!

Note 8's battery and charging speed are way different, though. Heat on these newer phones will charging, especially if you have a faster-charging coil. Having an extra layer of material that may not be dissipating the heat properly does add some more degrees into the mix (since you have a thicker case, the coil in the charger will try to output as much power as possible to keep charging speeds, leading to hotter charger surfaces and more heat on the phone's back).

I figured. Charging wired doesn't cause as much of a heat build up. Im guessing either I just get used to wired charging again, or get a different case. I just have tended to get Otterbox due to my paranoia, despite the fact that I can count on barely 2 hands the number of times I've badly dropped my phone since getting the HTC Thunderbolt in 2011.

I used to be in that 'paranoid' camp before, and after dropping my S7 ONCE shattering the whole back... but phones have gotten so darn big now that having a case just takes away the sexiness of the curves and just add too much bulk... so I just go with thin cases now. Fingers crossed!
