If that works for you, it's fine. Did you disable the settings in Security like the link shows? It may prevent UPS from having a problem after a restart. However, the security settings may be linked to your Google account too, so by removing your account, it may change the settings back to default and cause UPS to act up after a restart. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't doubt Google will mess things up either way.

Rolling back to an earlier version of play services worked but it just updated itself again. Even when location was disabled it wouldn't work with the account on there. I find it a bit intrusive but not earth shattering. Currently undecided about having a Google account on my phone.

Well, the good thing is you know what was causing the issue.

Personally, I disable all auto updates in Playstore and I'm quite anal when it comes to anything Google. I actually have all Google services disabled until I need to use something... at which time I go through a pain in the **s turning on everything i need. For me it's not a problem as I don't spend much time with social media, maps, google backup (never used it), GPS, etc, so alls good. Unfortunately, many things in MM might not work correctly if Google integration is shut down. Can't remember though as MM never stayed on my LL Note 4 for very long.
