Android Central Question

type c hdmi tv cable

Hello, I would like ot connect my new phone (Elephone s8) to the hdmi tv.
I would like to get the cable which has a usb for power. So one end to the elephone s8 - type c, the other end is the hdmi to the back of the TV and the other end is the usb to get power. Can you please let me know where to get a compatible cable with my phone? The ones I have tested are not compatible.

Thank you

Re: type c hdmi tv cable

I see 2 concerns with this setup.

1 - that cable HAS to be well-built. Running power and high-quality video through the cable at the same time is just ASKING for corruption of the image, unless the power is properly shielded from the signal.

2 - I'm not sure the ports on Android devices are set up to run power and video at the same time, if they're even set up to run video. Of course, this may vary by manufacturer.

That said.. I wonder if this would work - https://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Adapter...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU6146261 It notes compatibility with the Note 8, but that device might have a different USB-C port setup than your Elephone.

Re: type c hdmi tv cable

2 other solutions. Wirelessly charge with just a hdmi to the TV, or cast from your phone to the TV while plugged in to the charger. Good luck

Re: elephone s8 - hdmi tv cable

Hello and welcome to the forums at Android Central!

I'm not familiar with that phone, but it uses micro USB there's a cable that works from micro USB to HDMI.
I think it's called MHL Micro USB to HDMI HDTV Adapter.
But your phone should be able to "cast", or "mirror" wirelessly to most smart TVs, or TVs with a Roku, Apple TV, Amazon stick, etc, no need to spend money on a cable.

Re: elephone s8 - hdmi tv cable

Welcome to the forums. I agree with STARGATE; it may be much better and easier to get either a Roku or Chromecast. The reason being, it would be more cost effective and a higher quality than most cable adapters you can find.

The phone would need to support mhl, which I am not sure if it does

Welcome to the Android Central Community!
I have Chromecast and it's by far the better way to go!

Welcome to the forums!

I'm inclined to agree with Gary, Chromecast and forget about cables. You won't regret it.

Re: elephone s8 - hdmi tv cable

Hi there, welcome to the Forums!

As others have said, the USB-to-HDMI cable is called MHL, and to make things more complicated, there's MHL 2 and 3, with different pins. That is all hardware-specific. Unfortunately for you, the Elephone S8 does NOT list as MHL-compatible (although you can use the app below to check).

So, the best way to do this without the HDMI-output capabilities, is to wirelessly share your device's screen onto the TV. If you own a smart TV, chances are it supports screen mirroring. If it doesn't, a device like a Roku or a Chromecast would also work.

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this thread from the Intros forum to the General Help forum, since it's not really an introduction.

Re: elephone s8 - hdmi tv cable

Thank you guys for the details...
It seems that my new phone is not hdmi compatible.
Question:
My panasonic TV is not smart and would like to watch youtube videos on it via my mobile phone.
What is the best way to do this? From your answers I see you are suggesting amazon fire stick/chromecast/roku
Thank you

Re: elephone s8 - hdmi tv cable

You're correct -- the only solution would be a wireless streaming device like Chromecast.
