Unable to receive OTA update

Am curious if there are any other forum members with a RED phone that have rec'd the latest OTA update.

I have been into the ATT store to do a SIM card swap, had the update pushed to my phone twice and still cannot get it. EVERYTHING on my phone works perfectly, including great battery life, ALL app updates happen seamlessly, etc.

ATT tech support has said there appears to be something in between their network and my phone that stops the update from pushing through which given that all other updates happen without issue is just plain weird. I do NOT want to do a factory restore just for the stupid ATT software update however. And of course, they would do a warranty exchange too, but don't see the need.

My main objective however is to get the JB update when it's released, though am sure it will be available via Kies. Since I was able to transfer my iTunes music with Kies without problems, I suspect I will be able to do a software update easily as well.

Am a firm believer in 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' and right now my phone works like a charm.

Garnet Red S3 branded on AT&T I believe I have the OTA update which brought the S3 to 4.0.4, kernel 3.0.8-985684?

I just got the blue S3 and thats what I have as well.

Just restore you phone already... Your not going to get future updates if it's not working now. Do you know how many times I have flashed new roms and returned to stock. Don't know why you are beating this horse. Your phone has a problem. Why are so against restoring the phone?

It is true. These are incremental updates. You won't get the update if you aren't current. So if you don't get it updated you will have to root and install a ROM based off of the ota.

I've had the same issue. I was actually awaiting you doing the sim switch to see if it worked. I'm going to go ahead and restore later on today. Hopefully it'll work then.

Did a restore and still not working. Disappointing.

Funkmaster.. that's not what I had hoped to hear especially with the comment by lavrishevo.. What tech support told me is that were 3 options: (1) Do a factory reset, (2) take the phone to a service center or (3) do a warranty replacement which for me, is far more advantageous than investing the time and effort to go to SF to the service center. If what Skunkape say is true about not being able to update to JB without getting the OTA update installed, it would appear that I'll need to try doing the restore or get a new phone from ATT. Maybe you should do the same thing.

How do you get the updates pushed to the phone mine always says cannot connect to server

Contact ATT data support and they can push it to your phone. Sounds like you're getting the same 'communication failed' message as I am too. I just chatted with Samsung support and they say that a device can still be updated to 4.1 when its released via Kies even if the previous OTA update has not been installed. They also said that having a phone that can receive the OTA updates is better since many of them improve performance. I'm thinking of just requesting a warranty replacement rather than doing the reset which will save time and aggravation if the reset doesn't work as with FunkMaster Joe.

Update: I did a live chat with ATT tech support and they informed me that the push doesn't always work and that its still possible I will get the update notification. He said due to the popularity of the device ATT does not roll out the update to all users at once since it crashes their servers. So am going to wait a bit longer before taking any further action. Cheers!

At least you can still use Kies to update to 4.1. Those who got the OTA update can no longer update via Kies(unsupported device).

Get your sim changed out for free at an ATT store. Worked for 1 of the 3 GS3's that wouldn't update. It did take 24 hours for the update to available for the phone, but I don't think it was a coincidence because the Sim change also fixed microcell oddity.
