Unable To See N Network

We got our Nexus 7 Tablet this morning so I busted it out and started playing with it and noticed that it's not able to even see our N network. The router that we have transmits both N and G signals for backward compatibility for legacy devices.

I'm looking at my Galaxy Nexus phone and I'm able to see both networks just fine and am connected to the N network. I've been looking all through the settings on the Nexus 7 but I'm kind of stumped. Anyone else having this issue?

Just saw a person say the same on Google+.

So maybe it's a hardware issue and I should call Google and send it back for a replacement? /cries

I just got it and I wants to pay with it!

Ok. Will this affect signal strength or anything if I switch this on the router? Sorry I'm kind of naive when it comes to this. I know how to switch it but not sure what repercussions it'll have lol

The N7 is 2.4 GHz only. If your N network is on 5GHz the N7 won't see it.

In my own honest opinion 2.4GHz is better than 5.0GHz.

5.0GHz uses more power and has a smaller range, you'll find that by switching over to 2.4GHz you'll have better signal throughout the area.

The only benefit of 5.0GHz(that I can recall) is that it was has less interference. But in most cases it won't matter.

Excellent and thanks for the tip! And yes, we're out in the middle of no where, so shouldn't have much interference.

Same, and either way you shouldn't be bothered by it anywhere anyway.

But I'm no expert, so do some own research if you have the time.

I changed it to the 2.4MGhz and it fixed the problem. Not really seeing any side effects right now. Thanks for the help everyone!

2.4 can cut through walls better but 5 is supposed to be better in a vacuum. It's one of those theories that doesn't really work in the real world. The big advantage as has been said above is that not many things are licensed on the 5 specturm yet. Some phones, baby monitors, and even Bluetooth are on the 2.4 spectrum. Get rid of any 2.4 phones and you should be ok as Bluetooth somehow plays nice.
