Unable to send text if it contains "-8" without quote.

I'm using LG G4 and my carrier is T-mobile. When I try to send SMS(text) which contains hyphen followed by number like -7, -8, -9, it says Sending.... but never sent. I see -8 is converted to pink music symbol. Has anyone faced such issue? Please let me know if there is some setting I need to do to be able to send text containing any text(eg. 9-800). Thank you.

Those are emoji codes, and the text app has to be set to not split texts (or to use MMS) to send emojis. Check to see if you have yours set to split long texts or to not use MMS for them.

I switched from Stock texting app to "Textra" and this no longer happens anymore and I was also getting annoyed with the pink music symbol Glad it no longer happens

Just switch texting stock apps it seems to be a issue with the built in one
